During the construction process, sudden failure of the drill pipe is very scary and troublesome, so choosing a good drill pipe is very important.
Firstly, the drill rod is a key component of the drilling rig, so the selection of the drill rod must be based on the drilling capacity parameters and borehole diameter of the drilling rig, the drillable depth, and the empirical ratio of D/d=4.5 to determine the diameter of the geological drill rod.
Secondly, it is important to understand the main parameter of the drill rod, which is torque. We know that the transmission of torque through drill rods relies on the meshing and squeezing of keys and keyways. Due to factors such as machining accuracy, material properties, and welding quality, it is impossible to evenly distribute torque on each key, and each contact key cannot uniformly contact and bear force. Therefore, long keys often experience local twisting and breakage. When selecting the design torque for drill rods, it is necessary to choose a torque greater than that of the drilling rig.
In addition, the pressure exerted by the drilling rig is also the main external force borne by the drill rod. When selecting the drill rod, it is important to consider the design bearing capacity of the key, especially the tight drill rod. More importantly, the minimum diameter and wall thickness of the innermost drill rod should be taken into account. It not only has the smallest anti torque section modulus, but also has a small anti bending section modulus. The stress situation of the drill rod in the hole is very complex, and the combined stress of tension, compression, torsion and bending may exceed the fatigue limit of the drill rod and be twisted when stuck. From the outside, we cannot only consider the strength of the drilling rig drill rod. In fact, the working state and properties of the drill rod in the hole belong to unstable conditions. Therefore, when checking its bending strength, instability should also be considered.
And in the actual construction environment, it is also necessary to choose the appropriate type of drill rod. Generally, for geological layers such as soil layers, sand layers, gravel layers, and silt geological layers, friction type drill rods are selected. When encountering gravel layers, boulder layers, hard plate sands, and hard rock layers, fixed type drill rods should be selected. Fixed type drill rods are also suitable for general geological layers. Therefore, it is recommended that companies with conditions purchase both types of drill rods.
Finally, when selecting drill rods, it is also necessary to consider whether the maximum pulling force of the main winch in the lifting system is suitable for the weight of the drill rod, the weight of the drill bucket, and the weight of the drilling slag, because the weight of the drill rod accounts for about 50-60% of the lifting weight. Here, it is particularly important to mention the impact of sudden braking during the lifting process of the drill rod and the inertial force starting from the drilling hole. The inertial force may account for 30-40% of the lifting weight, and the direction of this force is consistent with the direction of the lifting weight. Therefore, sufficient consideration should be given to the selection of the weight of the drill rod.
So choosing a good geological drilling rod also involves many aspects, such as the materials used for drilling rod manufacturing, the production and processing technology of drilling rods, as well as after-sales service and other factors.
