In the drilling process of oil, natural gas, water sources, and mineral deposits, drill collars are required. Although the structure of drill collars is simple, the quality requirements they need to meet are relatively high.During the drilling process, the mud in the soil is usually squeezed up, causing resistance to the drill collar, making it difficult to drill and prone to damage during construction; Before assembly, the external thread at the male joint of the drill collar is prone to wear and tear, resulting in the inability to connect the drill collars properly.
Drill collars are used to increase the weight of the drill string, provide greater drilling pressure to the drill bit, and accelerate the drilling speed. Due to its strong rigidity and good stability, it also plays a role in stabilizing the drill bit and maintaining the wellbore trajectory. Spiral drill collars and non-magnetic drill collars belong to special types of drill collars, among which spiral drill collars are machined with three spiral grooves on the cylindrical surface of the overall drill collar to reduce the contact area of the wellbore wall. Spiral drill collars can effectively prevent pressure difference and drill pipe sticking. Non magnetic drill collars are mainly used for monitoring during oil drilling processes.
The drill collar is located at the bottom of the drill string and is the main component of the lower drilling tool assembly. Its main feature is a large wall thickness (usually 38-53mm, equivalent to 4-6 times the wall thickness of the drill pipe), with a large gravity and stiffness. For the convenience of drilling, elevator slots and slip slots can be machined on the outer surface of the internal thread of the drill collar.
