1. Since all magnetic measurement instruments sense the Earth's magnetic field when measuring the wellbore direction, the measurement environment must be magnetically neutral. However, during drilling, drill strings often exhibit magnetism and generate magnetic fields, which interfere with magnetic measurement instruments and prevent accurate wellbore trajectory data acquisition. Magnetic drill collars can create a magnetically neutral environment while retaining the drilling characteristics of conventional drill collars.
2. Ordinary drill collars generate magnetism due to friction with the formation during drilling, whereas non-magnetic drill collars do not produce magnetism. This prevents interference with magnetic flux in logging or inclination measurements, ensuring accurate data acquisition.
