Drill pipes are further classified into various types, including regular drill pipes, square drill pipes, and heavy-weight drill pipes.
The regular drill pipe is the main component of the drill string, connected to the kelly above and the drill collar below. Its function is to transmit torque, enabling the drill bit to drill downward and deepen the wellbore. The kelly, located at the top of the drill string, primarily serves to transmit torque and bears the weight of the drill string. It consists of a driving section (square or hexagonal), an upper joint (left-hand thread), and a lower joint (right-hand thread), with the square kelly being the most commonly used.  The heavy-weight drill pipe serves as a transitional section between the regular drill pipe and the drill collar. It effectively alleviates stress concentration at the interface between the drill collar and drill pipe, provides drilling pressure, and minimizes the contact area between the drill string and the wellbore wall while reducing the wear rate of the outer diameter.
