       Weighted drill pipe is a transitional drill string section between ordinary drill pipes and drill collars. It can effectively alleviate stress concentration in the transitional section between drill collars and drill pipes, provide drilling pressure, and effectively reduce the connection area and outer diameter wear rate between drill pipes and wellbore.

       Weighted drill pipes have the following characteristics:
(1) Its drill pipe joints are longer than ordinary drill pipes, providing a larger wear-resistant surface and weight, and the joint threads can be repaired multiple times;
(2) Heavier than drill pipes of the same size, with a wall thickness 2-3 times higher than ordinary drill pipes. The outer diameter of the pipe and joint is the same as that of ordinary drill pipes, and the inner hole is flat with a diameter at least equal to the inner diameter of the drill collar.
(3) The thick section in the middle serves as a small stabilizer. Improved bending resistance.
(4) Welding wear-resistant hard alloy on the surface of the joint can extend its lifespan by four times.
(5) Fatigue failure of drill string often occurs on several drill pipes above the drill collar, because the cross-section changes sharply when transitioning from the drill collar to the drill pipe, and bending stress is concentrated on this part of the drill pipe. If 15-30 weighted drill rods are added between the drill collar and the drill pipe, it can alleviate the changes in the cross-section, reduce stress concentration, and prevent fatigue damage to the drill pipe connected to the drill collar; So as to reduce drilling tool accidents. In addition, compared with drill collars, weighted drill rods have advantages such as easy salvage, shortened tripping time, and convenient handling. They can also maintain the orientation of directional wells and play a stabilizing role. Under the same hook load and drilling pressure, using weighted drill rods can also improve the drilling depth capacity of the drilling rig.
(6) Used for directional wells: After connecting weighted drill rods to the drill string of directional wells, the drill collar and weighted drill rod body can not be tightly attached to the wellbore, thereby reducing the possibility of sticking and sticking the drill bit. In addition, sliding drilling is beneficial for controlling the wellbore trajectory of directional and horizontal wells. It can also better control the inclination and azimuth angle of the well, reduce the number of directional operations, and thus shorten the construction cycle of directional wells.
