Check for cracks, gouges, or uneven wear at the end of the drill rod, and ensure the shoulder surface is smooth and free of scratches.
Measure the wear of the outer diameter at the end with a vernier caliper. If the worn diameter is less than the standard size by 2mm, it must be replaced promptly.
If the male and female threaded connections show uniform wear with sharp edges on the thread crests, they also need to be replaced.
When working in abnormal strata such as cobblestone layers, faulted layers, and reinforced concrete layers, the drill pipe end is prone to damage from scratches or crushing by hard objects, requiring increased inspection frequency.
