Spiral drill collars need to be prepared before use, such as inspection and cleaning, thread grease application, etc.
Before using a new drill collar, it is necessary to clean the old thread grease, carefully inspect the threads and shoulder surface for any scratches, and ensure that the phosphating layer is intact. Apply thread grease evenly again, and do not add anything else in the middle when screwing the internal and external threads together. Thread grease must meet the requirements of relevant standards, etc.
Before using the spiral drill collar, attention should also be paid to the requirements of tightening and torque. The tightening torque of drill collars has an extremely important impact on the safe use of drill collars. Each drill collar must be tightened according to the prescribed torque, and specific values can be referred to in API RP 7G "Recommended Practice for Drill String Design and Operating Limits". The recommended bending strength ratio for drill collars is (2.252.7:1), with a maximum allowable range of 2.03.2:1, and should not be used beyond this ratio.
