Testing the quality of petroleum drill pipes is a key step in ensuring that they can withstand complex working conditions such as high temperature and pressure, strong drilling and rotation forces during use.
Check whether the structure of the drill pipe meets the standards, including whether the length, weld neck diameter, inner diameter, outer diameter section length and other dimensions are within the tolerance requirements. This usually requires the use of professional measuring tools for precise measurement. Ensure that the drill rod does not have significant bending and maintain its operational stability. At the same time, the wall thickness of the pipe body must meet the regulatory requirements to prevent cracking due to uneven wall thickness during use.
The thread is a key part of the drill pipe assembly and loading/unloading, and its processing quality directly affects the connection strength and sealing of the drill pipe. During inspection, it is necessary to ensure that the thread processing meets relevant quality standards and undergo necessary surface treatment to prevent wear and corrosion.
Take samples of the pipe body, joints, and welding areas for tensile, torsional, and other mechanical performance tests to evaluate whether their strength, plasticity, and other mechanical properties meet the specifications. Use methods such as Rockwell hardness test to test the hardness of drill pipe materials, in order to determine their material and heat treatment effect.
The propagation and reflection characteristics of ultrasonic waves in drill rods can also be utilized to detect defects such as cracks and inclusions inside the rod body. This method has the advantages of high detection accuracy and no damage.
Apply magnetic powder on the surface of the drill rod and detect defects such as cracks inside the rod body through the action of a magnetic field. Magnetic particle inspection method is divided into wet and dry methods, which can be selected according to specific situations.
Check the coaxiality of the drill pipe joint, that is, whether the deviation between the longitudinal axis of the pipe body and the longitudinal axis of the welded joint meets the specified requirements. This helps ensure that the drill pipe can operate smoothly during use. Check the integrity and adhesion of the inner and outer coatings of the drill pipe to prevent corrosion and wear from affecting the performance of the drill pipe.
