Joint classification
The drill pipe joint is an integral part of the drill pipe, which is divided into male and female joints and is connected to both ends of the drill pipe body. In order to enhance the connection strength of the joint, the wall thickness of the pipe body needs to be increased at the joint site. According to the thickening method, it can be divided into three forms: inner thickening, outer thickening, and inner and outer thickening. The thread on the joint is threaded (thick buckle), which is used to connect each single drill pipe. The thread of the drill pipe joint is a taper pipe thread with a sealing shoulder. The shoulder surface is tightened to play a sealing role, and the thread only plays a connecting role. Thickening way is different, the corresponding joint thread buckle type is also different.
According to the screw thread type drill pipe joints are divided into four types: internal flat (IF), penetration (FH), regular (REG); Digital (NC).
Buckle connection conditions
The buckle connection must meet three conditions:
① Equal in size;
② Same thread type;
③ Match the male and female buckles.
Buckle type of joint
Inner flat type: mainly used for external thickening of drill pipe. It is characterized by the same inner diameter of the drill pipe and small flow resistance of drilling fluid; but the outer diameter is large and easy to wear. Penetration type: mainly used for internal and external thickening of drill pipe. Its characteristic is that the drill pipe has two inner diameters, the flow resistance of drilling fluid is greater than that of the inner flat type, but its outer diameter is less than that of the normal type. Formal type: mainly used for internal thickening drill pipe, drill bit and fishing tool. Its characteristic is that the inner diameter of the joint is smaller than the inner diameter of the pipe body, the drilling fluid flow resistance is large, the relative flow resistance is large in the three buckle types, but the outer diameter is small and the strength is large. The above three types of joints all use V-shaped threads, but the buckle type, buckle distance, taper and size are very different.
The Digital Type (NC) Series is an American National Standard Coarse Thread Series. API has been adopted as an international standard. NC threads are also V-type threads. Some NC-type joints have the same pitch diameter, taper, pitch and thread length as the old API standard joints and can be used interchangeably.
Oil drill pipe joints are mostly in the form of external thickening or internal and external thickening. The outer diameter of drill pipe joint is larger than the outer diameter of pipe body, and it constantly contacts and frictions with well wall or casing during drilling, resulting in wear. In order to avoid drilling accidents such as drill pipe breakage and tripping caused by joint wear, anti-wear belt of drill pipe joint must be provided on drill pipe female joint.
