The definition of an active drill pipe
release time:2026-07-28
source: Internet
The active drill pipe, also known as the surface drill pipe, is located at the top of the drill string. It is secured by the chuck of the drilling rig's vertical spindle or power head, or driven for rotation by a non-circular sleeve inside the rotary table, transmitting torque and axial force to the connected bottom drill pipe. The active drill pipe features large cross-sectional dimensions, facilitating secure clamping and rotation by the chuck while resisting bending. Its cross-sectional shapes include circular, square, hexagonal, and double-keyway designs.
