What is the working condition of the drill string during the drilling process

During the drilling process, the drill string alternates between two operations: tripping and normal drilling. During tripping, the drill string is under tension; during drilling, its state is more complex, involving tension, compression, and torsion. In rotary drilling, the working state and forces on the drill string are particularly intricate, resembling a slender rotating shaft. Under the axial pressure generated by partial self-weight, the lower section of the drill string becomes unstable and bends. Due to wellbore constraints, it can bend multiple times. Meanwhile, the upper section of the drill string deviates from a straight line due to centrifugal force from rotation, and combined with torsional forces, the entire drill string follows a complex rotational motion resembling a near-spiral curve.
